Song of the Day # 38 - Cal Tjader

A very interesting musician and tune and not just because of his and its name. Tjader is of Swedish-American stock. A cover and re-arrangement of a Dizzy Gillespie track, this, and the album it came from were crossover hits in The States in the Mid-Sixties. According to Wikipedia, (and who am I to argue), they adapted the title to make it all spicier and it  ended up popularising the expression Salsa due to its vocal callouts . Tjader contributed greatly to the development of Latin Jazz over several decades. A multi-instrumentalist he played vibraphone, drums, piano, timpani, bongos and congo amongst others. Definitely a musician worth exploring further. Thanks for my Jazz bass playing mate Paul for drawing my attention to this.
