100 Power Pop Songs Countdown # 55- 51

This series is wearing me out! Too much sun and happiness while outside my window all I can see is dark bleak Newcastle evenings. Still, ever onwards!

56 Black Lips

'We're rolling. Are you headstrong...'

Not sure if this is Power Pop, but always happy to promote Black Lips. One of the best bands around.

55. Dave Edmunds

'There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder...'

I generally just quote the first lyrics of the songs I post here. Is it just laziness, or are the first lines of a song often the best thing you get. That conversation will be held back to a later date.

54. Let's Active

'Emotion's an enemy agent...'

Mitch Easter, producer of the early R.E.M records. Easy Does is the opening song on Cypress, the first Let's Active album, which is all great, pretty much all Power Pop and which you get all of here.

53. R.E.M.

'I could live a million years...'

While we're breaking rules. Here are R.E.M. in this Power Pop chart. This particular song is possibly the closest they ever came to the form. Who-powered. From 1981's Chronic Town.

52. Sylvain Sylvain

'Buy yourself some teenage news...'

No real comment necessary. Except that he was in The New York Dolls and knows what to do.
