Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's The Kid is one of the odder, more genuinely 'out there' albums to be making the end of year lists this year. A trained musician from the Berklee College of Music, she's channelled what she picked up in formal education to make records that genuinely sound like an accurate take on the warped, bewildering, alluring, truly global and sometimes slightly terrifying world we find ourselves in in 2017. Love her. Ears was great too. I'm getting more into "out there" music as I get older and the retro retread bands become tiresome.
